Materials & Resources

Mandarin Duck on Ampersand Clayboard

Alcohol Inks: Your choice of colors. I used Ranger brand latte, ginger, limeade, everglades, teakwood, black, cobalt, evergreen, vineyard, sienna, sunrise yellow, sunset orange, glacier.
Ampersand 5×5” claybord panel

Ampersand scratchbord tool kit with claybord sample for practice

Ranger felt stamping tool (If you don’t have one, you can stamp ink on with wax paper.)
Isopropyl alcohol, rinsing cup, brush (I used size 3), palette, paper towels

Optional: Black pen such as Faber Castell or Sakura Pigma micron, carbon paper; masking fluid, angled chisel color shaper to apply mask, blending pen

You could also improvise this project to do on other papers, (such as Yupo, Nara, photo paper, or craft plastic) and use a white posca pen to draw feathers instead of scratching and a marker or blending pen to lift out areas of lighter tonal values.

Another idea is to try a wood duck instead!
